Queensland Sports Aviators

Queensland Sports Aviators (QSA) represents the interests of all Sports Aviation Federation of Australia members and SAFA-affiliated sports aviation clubs from the NSW border to the Central Queensland city of Rockhampton.
Those interests cover recreational & competition flying, the need to accommodate our forms of aviation in infrastructure planning (land and airspace requirements), sports funding in its numerous forms, training and development of all pilots whether new or long standing and the promotion of our exhilarating forms of aviation throughout our area of operation.

Support our athletes

There are numerous competitions and events around the country and the world where local pilots are involved. Currently Shane Tighe is competing at the Red Bull X Alps competition. Show your support, have a look at the Events page

Paragliding

A Paraglider pilot sits in a harness below a fabric wing that holds its shape through suspension lines and air pressure. Paragliders are hand controlled, simple to set up and light weight. Along with Hang Gliding, it's the cheapest form of aviation

Hang Gliding

A hang Glider pilot is suspended in a harness below a rigid framed wing. The frame is aluminium or carbon fibre, and the wing surface is sailcloth, similar to what would be found on a yacht. They are more substantial than a paraglider, but heavier and can fly in stronger winds

Powered Paragliding

Powered Paraglider or Paramotor pilots wear a motor on their back which provides enough thrust to take off with a paraglider that is specially designed for motored operations. Best suited to light wind conditions, making them easier to launch.

Microlighting

Microlight trike pilots sit in a propellor driven trycicle pod below what is essentially a heavy duty hang glider wing. They can fly great distances and are usually operated from an airfield.
